There have been tons of books published on the Mighty Eighth's air battles with the Luftwaffe. Marek Murawski's LUFTWAFFE VERSUS USAAF 8TH AIR FORCE is one of the very latest, being published by Kagero Publishing in 2013. Part of a projected multi-volume set, Volume I covers the birth of and early 8th AF ops up to May 1943.Murawski's book runs to 80 pages and features four pages of color side-views on 8th AF B-17s and Luftwaffe FW 190s. Mighty Eighth enthusiasts won't find much that's new here but the text is a fairly good mix of straight-ahead narrative and first-person reminiscences by American and German aircrew. Likewise the accompanying photographs are a mix of previously-seen shots and pix new to this reviewer. The translation is serviceable but oddities such as listing USAAF groups as "301.BG," "97.BG," "56.FG," etc. are a bit off-putting.Given the $15.95 price-tag, LUFTWAFFE VERSUS USAAF 8TH AIR FORCE is a bargain. Recommended.
