The on/off knob comes off easily other than that I’m very pleasedLots of airGreat design for air flowWould consider buying another one like thisa bit noisy but I still have three of them, so not that bad...I lile it it keep.the house cool ??Carry handle is not comfortable and the electrical cord is WAY too short. But it does the jobUpdate: December 7, 2013 (Pearl Harbor Day)As you can see, the one out of three fans I received without immediately obvious defect worked - until now. I happened to tip the fan over while standing on the floor - an accident any floor fan is sure to experience sooner or later. Most fans, you simply pick them up again - no big deal. Not this fan! Incredibly, although the cage was not damaged (the cage at least seems to be made of steel), the blades are so soft that the mere momentum of tipping bent one of them into the cage, stopping the fan. Even more incredible, where the blade hit the cage, the cage wire cut a sizable notch into the blade! The blades seem to have the mechanical strength of one of those disposable pie plates you get with a store bought pie. Maybe a double thickness pie plate. And bending it back doesn't work - it's impossible to get the balance right, so the fan vibrates horribly and is ready for the trash.I wish it were possible to see behind these American importer fronts to the actual Chinese manufacturers, so negative reviews could be more targeted. If they stop selling this piece of garbage as "MaxxAir", it will just appear under some other brand name. They make some good quality goods in China today, but they are desperately in need of some better accountability, because buying a Chinese product is just a crap shoot - you might luck out, or you might roll snake eyes and get a complete piece of throw away garbage, like this item. I'm not a xenophobe, but until Chinese manufacturing gets their house in order I long for some locally built simple products (like floor fans), which have identifiable manufacturer's brand names, and a reputation of some value to the brand owner! A pox on their miserable house.***Original review***After receiving two out of three of these fans with serious defects, I am forced to conclude that this product is made with zero quality control. The first fan I ordered arrived with minor shipping damage. However the distributor cheerfully sent me replacement parts without charge, and other than this the fan looked great and ran quietly and powerfully. So I ordered another one. However, the second fan arrived with a bizarre defect: it looked like one of the blades had been bent with a pair of pliers! That a fan looking like this could leave the factory should have been a red flag to me. But since Amazon was willing to replace it without cost and my first impression had not quite been broken, I accepted a replacement, tested both fans again, and then put them away until the summer. Well, now the summer has come, and guess what? Soon after beginning to use one of the fans I watched it slow down, pick up speed (but not to its prior speed), and then begin to squeak continuously. Bottom line: in less than 20 hours use one of the "permanently lubricated" bearings has failed! I own a fan which has run like new for 10 years without care other than cleaning, but this fan failed in less than a day's use. It remains to be seen what resolution Amazon and the manufacturer will offer, but no matter what they do, I have wasted my time with this product. Do not buy this brand of fan!Hmmm. The carton that the fan came in was in really bad shape. Lots of packing tape on top and bottom. When I opened the box the fan was not in its own package. It was just shoved into this other box. I noticed a screw on the tape on the top of the box. It was a screw to hold the base on to the fan. I had to search through the box to find the other screw. Luckily it was struck on the tape on the bottom of the box. Even the instructions were stuck to the tape on the bottom. I noticed that one of the knobs to tighten the fan position was broken. See the picture. Other than that the fan works fine. Very quiet. This review is for the, "MaxxAir HVFF20UPS Multi Purpose High Velocity 3-Speed Floor Fan, 20-Inch"This is my third fan of this model. My first was purchased for work and it was used sparingly. That one lasted until it walked off of a table one day. Lesson learned I guess. Make sure everything is secure and that the fan isn't going to go anywhere. The second one I bought for my home. I like the white noise. That fan lasted about 5 years being run almost every night. It could be very loud sometimes. The last one that I just ordered arrived with a few plastic pieces broken. This wasn't a problem as it was part of the bolt tighteners. Still one would expect a new product to not be broken in the box.Anyway, It definitely moves the air like the old one, and although it is quieter than the other two It still makes enough noise for what I need.As to the reviews stating that the fans are less sturdy than before. This new fan is actually made with larger screws and the fan shroud seems to be slightly stronger than my other two.My last MaxxAir fan was made in the USA and it was the best fan I ever purchased. This one is made in China, and is not of the same quality. It works okay, but makes a bit of a noise on the medium setting. I probably won't be buying one again soon.Received product October 9th, 2018. Started breaking down, making grinding noises and fan stopped circulating after a month . We kept it clean and greased the parts with wd40. Less than 2 months later, total stopped working. Total waste of money.I like that it does move a lot of air.I don't like that the swivel does not line up properly to have it blow horizontally.Vibrates too. This is a delicate fan one season onlyThis fan works well for our needs.
